Wockey is in Full Swing

Posted 3/29/13

Welcome to the Wockey Pool!  Congratulations!  You are one of the select 200 bracketeers who have decided to join this bumpy bandwagon for the 2013 year!

And bumpy it is!  In our very first game, we had arguably the biggest upset in the history of the pool--15 seed Yale beating 2-seed Minnesota.  Take that FGCU!!  Of course, it’s all commonplace in the Wockey Pool, which is part of the reason the Wockey Pool and the NCAA Hockey tournament are so great!

Though we fell three brackets short of reaching the total we had last year (ceiling hit it seems), reaching 200 two years in a row is quite an accomplishment.  We DID set a record for most brackets entered by one individual.  Erik Pederson holds the new Wockey record with an incredible eight entries.  Erik decided to use his 5th place winnings from last year and blow it all on eight brackets!  Erik did have the Gophers as NCAA Champion in three of his brackets, but he also picked Yale to top the Golden Rodents in two.

So Erik is the new bracket king....wait a minute...is that...IS THAT CHRIS GOODMAN’S MUSIC?!  That’s right!  Chris Goodman just Suh-mashed! Erik’s record by shelling out a Benjamin for a cool ten entries!!!  Outstanding!  Chris decided to diversify a little bit picking the Gophers to win it all in just two entries.  However picking Yale in only one is sure to put a damper on his day.

Yes, crazy times abound indeed in Wockeyland!

I’ll be back to update more on the makeup of this year’s tournament as well as the standings after the first day of the pool later tonight.  If you’re interested in watching the games (and why wouldn’t you be?), you can catch them on ESPNU or online at watchespn.com (if you have a cable provider who carries it).  You can also opt for the much more lame version of following the live blog at uscho.com.  And for Minnesota-based Wockeyites, tomorrow’s St. Cloud State and MSU-Mankato games will be broadcast on FOX Sports North.  Twin Cities-based Wockeyites are welcome to join a few of us watch St. Cloud State-Notre Dame at 12:30 at Mac’s Industrial Sports Bar in NE Minneapolis.

Wockey on!  And go Huskies!!!
