Wockey Pool 2014 - Wockey is On!!

Posted 3/28/14

Welcome to Wockey 2014 AKA The Biggest, Baddest, Boldest Wockey Pool of our eight-year run!

I am frankly astonished at how big this thing got this year.  For those who have been with us in the past, much credit goes to Mike Varian, a seasoned Wockeyite, cat fanatic, and master class web developer who built this beautiful site you are on right now.  Thank you Mike!

On to this year's pool.  We have a record..........wait for it................310 ENTRIES for 2014 easily smashing our previous record of 203 set a year ago!  That means that for the first time ever, our grand prize will be over $1000! Thank you to everyone who submitted brackets and especially to those who recruited friends, family members, co-workers, ex-girlfriends, ex-wives, ex-pets, random homeless men off the street, and/or strangers from Craigslist's "casual encounters" page to participate in this year's pool! We have another record in that Jason Kuss, last year's Wockey Champion, set a new Wockey standard with eleven bracket entries.  Talk about doubling down!  Kuss is hoping to be just the second back-to-back Wockey Champion ever after Kevin Jewett completed the feat in years two and three of the pool (hence the Jewett Trophy awarded annually to the Wockey Champion in addition to the cash and another great prize).

For the first time this year, Wockeyites had the ability to name their brackets.  Using a detailed, scientific process known as "my opinion", I have selected the following brackets as finalists for the First Potentially Annual If I Remember It Next Year Best Bracket Name Award:

Alabama-Huntsville Got Robbed by Chris Walker

Fiebelkorn Shmeeblekorn by Jeremy Smith

I like my women like I like my chicken by Chris Goodman

If I was not bald and Fat Id be good looking also by Chris Goodman

monkeys and footballs make me laugh again by Chris Goodman

Racing For Jesus seriously, is anyone else even trying besides Chris Goodman?

Someday Mizzou Will Be In This Thing (C. Long) by Chris Long

So apparently only people named Chris have a sense of humor about their bracket names.  And I'm guessing Jeremy's middle name is Christopher.  But I digress.  The winner of the First Potentially Annual If I Remember It Next Year Best Bracket Name Award goes to......Chris Goodman for I like my women like I like my chicken!  Congratulations Chris!  For winning this award, you shall receive this!  Mike Varian is soooo jealous right now.

As luck would have it, I got schedued to work a high school robotics competiton today and tomorrow, so most of the updating occurring on our Facebook and Twitter accounts during the first two days of the bracket will be handled by my supremely talented brother, Chris Walker.  Please...be gentle.  However, I will be back to post at the end of each day as we attempt to recap the wildness of Wockey 2014.

Once again, welcome to the Wockey Pool 2014.  Good luck!  Or barring that, have a great Something on a Stick Day!

Your Sticky, Stocky, Stalker of a Wockey Commish,

Alex
